A little throw back story …. Almost 5 years ago

A little throw back story ….
Almost 5 years ago on our honeymoon in Bali I convinced my husband and our friend Stu to try out a day workshop of jewellery making. It was a pretty tropical (rainy) day in ubud and we took a few wrong turns before we made it to this pretty hidden spot that was only semi sheltered.

There were about 3 people running the workshop and already at least 8 people already stuck into their pieces… filing and polishing away.
We had a folder of pieces to pick from for our workshop but of course I already had something in mind I wanted to try that I was definitely not going to find in the folder.

When I showed them what I had planned on making I was told “Nooo… too hard and not enough time” … I said I wouldn’t mind if i didn’t end up finishing it but i really wanted to give it ago. They humoured me and let me get started on my ring.

They weren’t wrong… it was hard and I needed a lot of help. But I loved cutting and bending this one piece of metal into my organic ring form… I definitely overstayed my welcome but when I left I had this cool ring that I made with my very own two hands (and 2 other hands of help) … and an experience that excited me and pushed me to want to discover more about the art of jewellery making. I loved it so much that that same year I found a couple of courses to do here in Wellington and the rest as they say is history…
